Queen Bees
A good quality and prolific queen is the key to having a successful colony of bees. The queen's genetic material is passed on in the eggs she lays which become the workers of the next generation. Getting a consistently good tempered bee that is suited to the local conditions, produces a good lot of honey, is easy to handle and not prone to swarming is what we all aim for. We make no claims that we have all these qualities in our queens but we are working on it !

Breeder queens are chosen from our best production colonies, ones that exhibit as many of the above qualities as we can find. They are also invariably dark in colour or as near to the traditional English black bee as we can find.
We use modern "Genter" box grafting and mate queens in apidea mini nuc boxes. The area around the mating area is flooded with our drones of a good strain. Depending on the weather mated queens are available from mid June to the end of the season. All our queens are marked and ready for collection on appointment.Prices on application.
